As Couch correctly notes, MARSOC was created by fusing the 1st and 2nd Force Reconnaissance Companies (later renamed 1st and 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalions or MSOBs) with the grossly misunderstood Marine Special Operations Advisor Group (MSOAG).
